Weapons Detection System
A weapons detection system at a controlled entrance may combine personnel screening, baggage inspection, trained operators and response procedures. A walk through metal detector is designed to detect metallic objects and can help identify metal weapons or components according to the selected sensitivity.
Role of a Walk Through Metal Detector
An archway metal detector generates an alarm when the detected metal signal exceeds the configured threshold. Multi-zone indicators show the approximate vertical location of the alarm. This information can make secondary checks more focused, but it does not identify the exact object or replace operator assessment.
Build a Layered Screening Process
- Define the metallic threat objects and minimum detection objective.
- Control access so every person follows the same screening route.
- Remove or manage common personal metal items when required.
- Establish secondary inspection and alarm resolution procedures.
- Test performance regularly using approved test objects.
Important Capability Limits
A conventional security metal detector gate detects metal; it is not a universal detector for every prohibited material. Non-metallic threats require other inspection methods. Site managers should select equipment as part of a documented risk assessment and comply with applicable laws and security standards.
